Karina Macielle Mateo-Sanchez
Is a bilingual lawyer with experience in civil litigation, immigration law, and administrative law matters. She holds an LL.M. in Canadian Common Law from Osgoode Hall Law School and a law degree from Universidad Iberoamericana, allowing her to bring both Canadian and international perspectives to her legal practice.
Born and raised in the Greater Toronto Area, Karina began her professional career in corporate and commercial law before focusing her practice on litigation. She currently practises in Ontario and manages legal matters from their initial stages through resolution in areas including civil litigation, construction disputes, family law, and immigration law.
Her practice includes drafting court documents and legal submissions, managing discovery and large-scale document production, conducting strategic legal research, and preparing records for judicial review proceedings before the Federal Court of Canada. She also has experience with complex immigration matters, including economic immigration programs and humanitarian and compassionate applications.

Lia Gutiérrez
Is an Intake and Administrative Assistant who has been part of Carus Law since the firm’s founding. She supports the legal team by coordinating client intake, maintaining case files, managing communications, and helping ensure that each matter remains organized and progresses efficiently.
Her responsibilities include preparing contracts and legal correspondence, drafting preliminary legal documents under lawyer supervision, organizing supporting documentation, managing client records, and providing administrative support across the firm’s practice areas.
Fluent in English and Spanish, Lía is committed to delivering responsive, organized, and client-focused service. She supports both clients and the legal team with professionalism, attention to detail, and a strong commitment to efficient case management.
